Want to travel to Europe but just can’t afford the plane ticket? A new airline aims to change that.
Icelandic airline company Wow Air announced Tuesday that it would begin offering flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to various major European cities for $199. Flights to Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, cost only $99.
The destination cities include London, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm. All trips include a one-hour layover in Reykjavik.
“This is a game changer for WOW air, and arguably the travel industry, making travel to Iceland and other European countries both easy and affordable from California,” Skúli Mogensen, founder and CEO of Wow Air, said.
The airline company will begin flying passengers to Europe from San Francisco on June 9 on a five-day-a-week schedule and Los Angeles on June 15 on a four-day-a-week schedule.
Wow Air, which was launched in 2011, currently connects 27 U.S. and European cities with the Icelandic capital. The company says it will more than double its annual passenger capacity of 840,000 in 2015 to over 1.8 million in 2016.
