A Michigan woman who was arrested in Florida earlier this month for attacking a sea turtle nest was arrested again after trying to leave the country.
The 41-year-old Chinese woman Lu Yaquin, was attempting to leave the country to Panama.
Lu’s attorney claimed that she had already booked this trip prior to being arrested, and that she didn’t know that she wasn’t allowed to leave the U.S. after being charged with a felony, according to Shanghaiist.
Lu is now being held without bond. On June 15, Lu was arrested for trespassing onto a protected area of Miami Beach and for “jabbing at a sea turtle nest and stomping all over the nest.”
She allegedly used one of the stakes that were protecting the area to dig into the nest. Lu was charged with “harassing/molesting a marine turtle or eggs” which is a third-degree felony in Florida.
As of now, Lu’s motives for attacking the turtle nest is still unknown.
