Woman Breaks Down After Discovering Why Her Dad Has Worn the Same Polo For 20 Years

The story of the Japanese father who wears the same polo shirt for over 20 years is making everyone on social media cry.
Japanese Twitter user @922_riaru shared the heartwarming tale of her father in a post earlier last month.
On her Twitter post, as translated by BuzzFeed, Ria revealed that she accidentally uncovered the reason while she was going through her deceased grandfather’s belongings last month. There, she found a photo of her parent’s honeymoon, showing her father wearing the same polo shirt he’s been wearing for the past 20 years – and a matching one with switched colors for her mother.
Ria’s mother passed away 18 years ago from cancer. The polo, said on the translation, holds a special memory for her father of their honeymoon.
“I wondered why he kept on wearing that old polo shirt,” she told the publication in an interview. “Why didn’t he just buy a new one? I never imagined that the polo shirt would contain such a special memory for him.”
She often recall seeing her father fixing the memorable polo shirt whenever it got damaged. “When that polo shirt gets a hole in it, he carefully sews it back together. He wears it for any special occasion, be it a work study event or a trip out with the family.”
After learning the full story, she admitted that her feelings towards the polo shirt drastically changed and that she learned a lesson from it, like how to cherish memories of your loved ones.
“I always thought he was so ‘uncool’ for continuously wearing the same old polo shirt. But now I think that I have to look after memories too. I will never throw away anything important of my parents or grandparents.”
