Chinese Canadian sensation Kelly Yu appeared to surprise a woman dealing with a recent breakup with an apparently impromptu serenade at a hotpot restaurant in China.
A chance encounter: Yu, renowned for her hit song “Decency,” was reportedly dining at a Haidilao hotpot restaurant in China recently when she overheard a group of friends at the next table consoling a woman who had just gone through a breakup. The friends, along with restaurant staff, were singing Yu’s song “Decency” to comfort the heartbroken woman.
The heartwarming scene, which was captured on film and uploaded to social media on Monday, shows the 33-year-old singer approaching the table to join the group. She then inquires about the breakup, eliciting excited gestures from the woman’s friends.
Touching gesture: Yu suggested a change of heartbreak anthem and introduced her new song, “Why Bother,” which she felt was more fitting for the occasion. The crowd eagerly chanted, “Sing for us! Sing for us!” Yu complied, promising the heartbroken woman, “I will sing two lines for you, after that, [the break-up] is officially over, okay?”
After the impromptu performance, Yu encouraged the woman to continue her meal. She also took photos with her and her friends before leaving them with words of encouragement.
Viral clip: The video of the encounter quickly became a sensation on Weibo and other social platforms, amassing millions of views and countless comments. Most netizens expressed their admiration for Yu, with some even humorously wishing for their own breakups to receive such a comforting serenade.
