The Washington Post has edited the caption in its article about “The Joy Luck Club” after misidentifying nearly all the cast in the photo.
In their article titled “Why ‘The Joy Luck Club’ is the most interesting — and frustrating — addition to the National Film Registry this year,” the publication originally featured the actresses’ names as Kieu Chinh, Ming-Na Wen, Tamlyn Tomita, Tsai Chin, France Nuyen, Lauren Tom, Lisa Lu and Rosalind Chao, according to The Wrap.
“From left,” nearly every name is incorrect. Tsai Chin seems to be the only one they accidentally got right. pic.twitter.com/g3LXsn5oGT

One Twitter user pointed out the similarities of The Washington Post’s picture caption to that of IMDB’s with the same still from the movie.
They literally just copied the caption for this same picture in IMDB but didn’t even bother to look at who’s who. FFS the laziness… 🤦🏾♀️ pic.twitter.com/9GD8IQ99Yg

After all the backlash, The Washington Post has updated its picture and added a note on top of the article that reads, “An earlier version of this article included a photo caption that incorrectly identified the actresses in ‘The Joy Luck Club.’ The caption has been updated.”
Here’s what other social media users said about the mistake:
No, second from left is actually Awkwafina

The one on the far right is Emma Stone.

Formerly one of the top papers in the US and now they can’t even get names right on photo captions. You can almost hear Ben Bradlee retching from the other side…

It’s like they were doing it on purpose. How do you mess it up that badly?

At one point Rosalind Chao tagged her fellow actress Tamlyn Tomita to comment on the blunder.
Oh look! @thetamlyntomita, you are my mom according to this pic.
