Malaysian Girl Gets Shout Out From Rage Against the Machine Guitarist for Her Cover
By Bryan Ke
A young girl from Malaysia has attracted the attention of Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello for performing a heart-melting cover of “Killing in the Name.”
Morello shared a clip of Ujang Ijon and his 3-year-old daughter Audrey, the Malaysian father and daughter duo, earlier this week on Twitter, according to Mashable.
The video, created by the 44-year-old guitarist, shows the duo covering the popular rock song released by Rage Against the Machine in 1992.
“Killing in the Name,” which was included in the self-titled debut album, became the band’s signature, South China Morning Post noted.
The video was viewed more than 1.9 million times since it was posted to Facebook on April 26.
Ujang told the Asian pop culture website Format that Audrey was the one who “picked up [Killing in the Name] because she always hears it in my car. She’s not a huge fan of rock but she likes any genre.”
Even though “Killing in the Name” has a fairly heavy message about institutional racism and police brutality, Audrey was able to make it too adorable.
