A 1-year-old boy in central China accidentally tore his foreskin after getting his penis trapped between the gaps of an escalator.
The terrifying incident occurred on the evening of May 24 inside a shopping mall in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
The boy, nicknamed Kunkun, was wearing a pair of open-crotch pants when he slipped from his grandfather’s hands and ran toward the escalator, according to Sina News.
His attending physician, Dr. Wang Jun, said that he was admitted just in time and that his injury will not threaten his reproductive capacity later in life.
Dr. Wang added that the hospital receives three to five children with genital trauma every summer, with causes ranging from zipper problems to getting stuck in elevators.
He urged parents to watch out for their children when outdoors and suggested using disposable diapers or easy-wear trousers in lieu of open-crotch pants.
Other disadvantages of open-crotch pants include susceptibility to infection and mosquito bites, interference in toilet training, lack of privacy and the risk of getting followed by pedophiles, Sohu noted.
