Tinder’s parent company Match Group has promoted Faye Iosotaluno to be Tinder’s new chief executive officer.
The new position: Iosotaluno, who previously served as Tinder’s chief operating officer, will replace Renate Nyborg, who left Tinder in August 2022. She will continue to report to Match Group CEO Bernard Kim, who held the vacated position until Iosotaluno’s promotion.
In a press release on Jan. 9, Kim praised Iosotaluno’s “unparalleled” understanding of the dating industry and her “remarkable leadership capabilities.” She is Tinder’s second woman and first Asian American CEO.
What she’s saying: In an internal memo seen by Fast Company, Iosotaluno said she believes that the industry and Tinder are at a “moment of transition” and that their goal is to build the “most modern and safest experience” in line with their vision for “all genders, ethnicities, geographies, intent [and] socioeconomic class.”
“This doesn’t happen overnight. It happens with creative, deliberate, progressive work and commitment from all of us,” she continued. “I’m thrilled to be able to lead our way through this.”
Harnessing AI: Kim in his memo also spoke about artificial intelligence, which Tinder has been experimenting with to help users build their profiles. “While I’ll always remain closely connected to Tinder as we collaborate across the portfolio and create new avenues of opportunity—such as our exploration of AI, it is the right time for this change,” he noted.
About the new CEO: Iosotaluno, who holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard, served as Match Group’s chief strategy officer for five years before joining Tinder to become its COO in February 2022. Before Match Group, she had worked with SoundCloud, Viacom Media Networks, Warner Bros. and Time Warner in various leadership roles for 15 years.
