Man claims to steal groceries to save money in TikTok ‘life hack’

What started as seemingly innocent financial advice turned sideways when a TikTok user claimed in a “life hack” video that he steals groceries to save money.
On Wednesday, TikTok user @someasianontiktok uploaded a video in which he briefly explains how he managed to save $1,200 by using “out of sight out of mind life hacks.”
At the start of his now-viral TikTok video, which has already been viewed over 5.2 million times and liked more than 920,000 times, @someasianontiktok shows his wallet stuffed with countless bills purportedly amounting to a total of $1,200..“For every $100 you make, what are you going to do with it?” he asks. “Fold it up, put it away, out of sight, out of mind … it doesn’t exist.”
He then shows several bills worth $35, which is what he has left over to spend on items such as groceries.
The plot twist happens once the TikTok user shows his groceries and then claims to have shoplifted some of the items.
“I do not care how much money I have,” he can be heard saying. “I will steal when the opportunity is given. So I put the flat items, like bacon and sh*t, underneath the waters because they don’t make you f*cking lift this sh*t up onto the counter. I got these sh*ts [smoked sausages] for free, I got more bacon for free. … So I saved 30 bucks here. The total was only $47. I should’ve really paid $70 to $80.”
“Save your money, live better, steal from corporate,” he declares before the video ends.
Several TikTok users who commented on @someasianontiktok’s post seemingly found his video hilarious.
“Bro said, ‘bacon out of sight out of mind,” one user commented, while another wrote, “Kept the damn food out of sight out of mind bru.”
“Bro just taught us how to steal stuff from the store bet,” another user said.
“Bro just recorded/admitted his crime,” another user commented with a crying emoji.
However, after his video went viral, @someasianontiktok commented on his post and claimed that it was all a “prank” and that he is an actor, to which another TikTok user replied, “Bro was obligated to say this to not catch jail time said his lawyer.”
In a recent follow-up video, @someasianontiktok seemingly backtracks on what he shared in his previous post.
“Regarding my last video, about the water thing, putting groceries underneath, I don’t know if that sh*t works. I don’t do that sh*t,” he claims.
