This Heartbreaking German Christmas Ad Will Make You Rethink Your Holiday Plans This Year

A recent Christmas ad from German supermarket chain Edeka is eliciting tears from viewers online everywhere this season.

The heartbreaking clip begins with a daughter’s voicemail message for her father.

“I just wanted to call and let you know that we can’t make it for Christmas this year,” the elderly man’s voicemail plays as he is seen putting up his daughter’s Christmas card. “We’ll try again next year. It’ll work out, I promise. Merry Christmas, daddy.”

A child’s voice adds, “See you soon. Merry Christmas, grandpa!”

The elderly man can then be seen eating dinner alone every year on Christmas as his family fails to visit.
