A woman who casually strolled into a store in Thailand and stole a Chanel bag has recently gone viral after a video and clear photos of the incident emerged online. After being shamed on social media, the thief returned to the store and surrendered the bag, Matichon reported (via Coconuts Bangkok).
The surveillance camera footage, uploaded by shop owner Natthapat Moongwattanasanti, showed a lady stealing the expensive item from a shop at Central Westgate. The store sells several authentic luxury bags and other fashion items from top international brands.
Through the power of social media, the theft was eventually solved after the culprit was identified by netizens through the clear screenshots of the woman accompanying the CCTV footage posted by the owner on her Facebook account on Nov. 2.
According to the 38-year-old store owner of the boutique “My Brand Name”, the woman pretended to talk to the store attendants and passed herself off as a customer before stepping out of the store with a red Chanel Mini Caviar 8″, which costs around 102,000 Thai baht ($2,920).
In a follow-up Facebook post, Natthapat updated her followers that the woman has returned the stolen Chanel bag and that the case filed against her will be dropped.
