A TikTok video showcasing a Louis Vuitton chopsticks set that cost $1,640 USD recently went viral on social media.
TikTok user @thejeffreyhuang shared his purchase of the fashion company’s chopstick set wrapped in a Monogram canvas case. His video featured a Louis Vuitton employee unwrapping the classic brown L.V. pouch, revealing four gold-colored chopsticks.
“Me being Asian needed these chopsticks,” Huang captioned his TikTok.
Each of the chopsticks is engraved with the L.V. monogram and floral details. Its bright microfiber lining on the inside of the pouch is inspired by the red envelopes given during Chinese New Year, according to the original product description on the brand’s website.
“These retail for only $1,640,” Huang said in the video. “What a steal. I love that there’s monogram all over it. I heard that these enhance the flavor of your food.”
The TikTok video, which was uploaded on March 18, has garnered over 4 million views and nearly 400,000 likes, as of this writing. While many viewers were amused, many were taken aback by the price.
“Nah I stopped the video at $1,640 😭 Are they even real gold!?” Jackie Aina asked.
“Y’all got too much money,” Dr. Shah commented.
“They ripping y’all off 😭 probably cost $20 dollars to make,” another user said.
Other users highlighted Huang’s use of words to describe the chopsticks. Viewers were surprised by his description of the product being “only” $1,640.
“ONLY For 1640 😂 I’m just gonna use my hands, they’re free,” one viewer said.
“Is this serious or satirical?” one user asked.
