An unfortunate accident left a young woman in Thailand with an eyeliner pencil lodged in her eye after she attempted to apply makeup during a cab ride.
The woman, who was on the way to see her friends, was reportedly applying eyeliner in the back of the cab during a slow-moving traffic jam in Bangkok, Thailand, local media reports.
When the taxi she was riding slammed into a truck, the impact of the crash jolted the woman forward, causing her to hit the back of the front seat as the pencil punctured her left eye.
The unnamed passenger, who is in her 20s, remained conscious when she was taken to the Rajavithi Hospital where the pencil was removed without any permanent injuries.
According to Paramedic Thanabodee Sabbodi, while half of the pencil plunged into the woman’s eye socket, her eyesight was not affected as the pencil missed vital parts of her eye.
“The crash happened at 5.20pm in Din Daeng area of Bangkok while the lady was putting on makeup on her way out for the evening,” Sabbodi was quoted by MailOnline as saying.
“We received a call and there was one injured female with an eyebrow pencil inserted into her left eye. She was in a lot of pain when we came but she could still talk to us and explain what happened. There was not a lot of blood but she had a small nose bleed. The rescue team and the doctors did a great job to help the victim.”
The healthcare professional noted that the incident should be a lesson for others who make it a habit to apply makeup inside a running vehicle.
“This should be a warning to women who do their makeup while cars are still running because accidents can always happen. This was a strange accident and unexpected but nobody can predict these incidents. We have to be prepared.”
