A teenager has been charged with first-degree murder over the death of Cam-Thanh Tat, 62, earlier this month in Toronto, Canada.
The 16-year-old suspect, whose identity can not be revealed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested on Feb. 19, reports CBC
He appeared in court by video on the same day of his arrest.
Toronto Police responded to a report of the sound of gunshots near Lawrence Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue at 7:08 p.m., according to CTV News.
The officers found an unconscious man suffering from gunshot wounds near an entrance to a strip plaza in Scarborough.
Authorities performed life-saving efforts on the victim but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Tat’s death, which remains under investigation, is Toronto’s seventh homicide of the year.
