SI Swimsuit cover model Yumi Nu responds to Jordan Peterson’s controversial Twitter dig

  • Curve model Yumi Nu has responded to a tweet from Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson that says her 2022 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover is “not beautiful.”
  • The 25-year-old model andsinger of Japanese and Dutch descent was widely celebrated for being the first Asian American plus-sized model to be on the magazine’s cover.
  • However, the 59-year-old Canadian psychologist was not impressed and wrote in a tweet: “Sorry. Not beautiful. And no amount of authoritarian tolerance is going to change that.”
  • In a recent TikTok post, Nu is seen lip-syncing the lyrics to Nicki Minaji’s song “Itty Bitty Piggy,” mouthing: “I don’t even know why you girls bother at this point. Give up. It’s me. I win. You lose.”

  • Nu, who is also a singer-songwriter, made history last year as Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s first “Asian curve” model.
  • Peterson sparked outrage on Monday after tweeting, “Sorry. Not beautiful. And no amount of authoritarian tolerance is going to change that.”
  • Twitter users were divided, with several of his own fans condemning Peterson for publicly insulting a woman’s looks. Others shot back that Nu was overweight and unhealthy.
  • Peterson announced shortly after the criticism that he would be quitting Twitter due to the “endless flood of vicious insult[s].”

After debuting in the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit last year, plus-sized model and singer Yumi Nu is now on the cover of this year’s issue. 

Nu, who is of Dutch and Japanese descent, joined Kim Kardashian, Maye Musk and Ciara as cover stars for the new issue that hits newsstands on May 19.
