Online retailer Shein has taken down a listing for a necklace featuring a swastika design and apologized for the outrage it caused.
Social media users called out the online retailer for the swastika necklace on Twitter last week and accused it of promoting anti-Semitism, according to CBS News.
Namsai was caught on camera donning the shirt last Friday prior to performing in the BNK48 Space Mission Concert at Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.
Mostly recognized as a symbol of antisemitism and terror because of its association with Adolf Hitler’s Nazi party, the swastika is also an icon widely used in ancient religions in many parts of Asia to convey “mercy” or “good fortune.”
In modern Japan, where it is referred to as manji (written as 卍), the swastika has become popular among the youth, with schoolgirls often incorporating the symbol in selfies and photos posted on social media.
