Master Choreographer Behind ‘The Matrix’ Yuen Woo-ping Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award at NYAFF

Yuen Woo-ping is the man behind the fight choreography seen in many classic action movies such as “The Matrix” trilogy, “Kill Bill” and “Ip Man 3.”

Yuen, 74, who was an honored guest at the New York Asian Film Festival and recipient of the Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award, is a Hong Kong martial arts choreographer born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

2018 was a big year for Asian-American films such as “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Searching,” but the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) aimed to spotlight other movies coming out of Asia.

The first night of the festival’s inaugural winter showcase at SVA Theatre in the New York City neighborhood of Chelsea on Feb. 1 featured South Korean actress Han Ji-min, who was named the first NYAFF ambassador.
