“Gucci Gang” rapper Lil Pump offered an apology for doing the slanted-eye gesture and using a racial slur in a preview of his new song “Butterfly Doors.”
Lil Pump, whose real name is Gazzy Garcia, apologized through an Instagram video post on December 25, according to Hop Clear.
Lil Pump has sparked backlash for lyrics he previewed on Instagram, which many found to be racist towards Asians.
Slated to appear in his upcoming song “Butterfly Doors,” the controversial lyrics contain the following line: “Smokin’ on dope / They call me Yao Ming ’cause my eyes real low (ching chong)”
A series of tweets by hip-hop and K-pop star Jay Park have generated some controversy online for taking a more positivistic stance on Lil Pump’s racist lyrics.
