A female employee of a Taco Bell branch in St. Louis, Missouri, was recently fired after spewing an Islamophobic
The incident happened at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday when the man, identified as Tarek Hamdan, who had been fasting all day for Ramadan came to Taco Bell for his pre-dawn meal. However, he ended up having a long 25-minute debate with the employee who insisted that “ALL Muslims are terrorists.”
In the clip, the employee, whose name was not revealed, can be heard saying through the window: “I’m going to tell you right now, until you call me and change my mind, Muslim mother—–s can suck my d—. Because they tore down my country, they killed thousands of my people, so you need to change my mind.”
Hamdan tried to patiently explain to the employee that her views on Islam and Muslim people is wrong.
“It’s not what you think and what you see in the news,” he said. “Those people, we don’t follow those people. Those people are monsters. Those people are disgusting. Those are the people that make the religion look bad.”
Instead of listening to Hamdan, the employee continued on and said: “You need to cater to me. I’m not going to cater to you, ’cause this is on my territory.”
“I’m an American just like you,” Hamdan said in his response.
Executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Missouri, Faizan Syed, called out the fast food franchise to step up and address the issue, as said in his statement on Friday, according to New York Daily News.
“I am utterly appalled by this ugly display of anti-Muslim bigotry and ignorance,” Syed said. “Taco Bell needs to take this incident seriously, apologize to the customer and immediately implement cultural competency training for all of their staff.”
After the issue went viral, Taco Bell immediately released a statement saying that the employee involved in the racist argument has already been fired.
“We welcome everyone in our restaurants and do not tolerate this type of behavior. This is a franchise location and the team member involved no longer works for this franchisee. The franchisee has reached out to the customer to apologize.”
