Steve Harvey Will Get a Filipina Co-Host For Miss Universe 2016 in the Philippines
By King Malleta
After his infamously humiliating blunder at the Miss Universe 2015, Steve Harvey will be returning to host this year’s prestigious beauty pageant in the Philippines, but this time with a little help from a Filipina.
According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo announced that they are eyeing a Filipina to join Steve Harvey in hosting the upcoming Miss Universe pageant to be held in Manila.
Teo confirmed that Harvey will host the pageant despite the unforgettable gaffe that happened in last year’s competition. The secretary added that they have already chosen a Filipina personality to co-host but refused drop the name yet. She hopes that getting another co-host would prevent any mishap like last year from happening.
Meanwhile, Harvey was recently a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and had some interesting revelations up his sleeve. He looked back and spoke about what he described as a “4-minute long hell” that happened behind the scenes of the Miss Universe 2015.
He said that prior to the announcement of the winner, he heard a man’s voice on his earpiece telling him to immediately read what was written on the card he was holding — which bears the name of Colombia. He then went backstage and found a panic situation because he announced the wrong winner.
Although he was told that the organizers will just rectify the situation the next day, Harvey disapproved. He walked out, owned up to the mistake, and announced Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach as the Miss Universe winner that night, GMA Network said in an article.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte previously rejected the idea of having Harvey host the Miss Universe pageant once again, especially in his country, but Tourism Undersecretary Kat De Castro pointed out that the president is merely joking and that Harvey is welcome to come to the Philippines anytime.
In addition, De Castro said that the DOT wanted to get President Duterte as one of the judges in the pageant, but Miss Universe has a rule against inviting judges from the host country.
The Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
