South Korean swimmer Hwang Sun-woo was recently named Asian Male Swimmer of the Year by swimming magazine SwimSwam.
Hwang, 19, received an honorable mention in 2021 before winning the publication’s 2022 title.
The young athlete has taken home two medals this year after competing in several major international competitions.
At the long course World Championships in Budapest in June, Hwang earned silver, reaching a new national record of 1 minute and 44.47 seconds in the men’s 200m freestyle.

Last week, Hwang won gold at the 2022 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in Melbourne, Australia, setting a new Asian record with a time of 1 minute and 39.72 seconds.
According to SwimSwam, Hwang may surpass South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan, a former national record holder and Olympic medalist, in achievements. Hwang has already claimed four of South Korea’s top 10 best times in the men’s 200m freestyle, while Park has claimed six.
