A man identified as the son of a prominent Hollywood executive has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a woman believed to be his wife.
Remains found: A transient man found the woman’s dismembered torso while searching through a dumpster near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Avenue in Encino at around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Through surveillance footage, investigators linked the remains to a home in the 4100 block of Coldstream Terrace in Tarzana.
About the suspect: Samuel Haskell, 35, was arrested for the murder of the woman, whom police believe to be his missing wife, Mei Li Haskell, 37. Evidence consistent with a killing and dismemberment were found in his Tarzana residence, which he reportedly shares with his wife, three children — who were in school — and his in-laws, identified as Gaoshen Li, 71, and Yanxiang Wang, 64, who are also missing.
Haskell is reportedly the son of Sam Haskell III, a veteran talent agent and film producer who also headed the Miss America Organization until 2017. Sam Haskell III has represented stars such as George Clooney, Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Romano and currently heads Magnolia Hill Productions, which has produced several Dolly Parton projects.
Criminal history: Haskell was reportedly arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon in 2008. He pleaded no contest to battery and was sentenced to three years of probation in 2010.
What’s next: Haskell is facing a murder charge and is being held on a $2 million bail. Meanwhile, authorities are still confirming the identity of the remains and locating Mei Li Haskell and her parents.
