A snake ended up as the main ingredient for some hungry students’ stew after it slithered into a Chinese university dorm room.
Instead of being terrified, the male students of the Chongqing Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering found an opportunity for an instant meal when they spotted the invading serpent.
After capturing the snake, the students began the lengthy preparation of skinning the animal, removing its innards and cutting the meat into smaller pieces.
The young men added some red dates, ginseng, orange peels, Angelica, and leeks to make a flavorful stew, according to Shanghaiist.
The school’s administrators reportedly found out about the incident later after images of the meal went viral on social media.
One of the teachers revealed on Sunday that they were not amused about the incident, noting that the students received a lecture from their teachers on tarnishing the school’s public image.
While the snake is not commonly consumed as food in most cultures, eating snake meat is widely accepted in many parts of Asia.
Prized for its alleged pharmaceutical benefits, the snake is considered a delicacy in countries such as China, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
In Cantonese cuisine, the snake stew is often consumed in autumn due to its effect of warming the body.
