Single Women Are Renting $200 Fake Boyfriends for Chinese New Year
By King Malleta
It’s that time of the year again when renting boyfriends in China is in high demand.
Many single women in China feel the pressure from parents who urge them to marry. If you reach a certain age and are not yet in a relationship or married, expect your parents to be very unhappy.
That’s why those who are planning to go home for this year’s Chinese New Year are already on the lookout for fake boyfriends for hire.
According to Asia One website, renting a fake boyfriend starts at around $150 to $200. But the price could go up depending on the guy’s qualifications. In addition, women have to pay for travel tickets and other costs that involves the whole “boyfriend-girlfriend skit.”
In Tencent’s QQ, you’ll find many advertisements from guys who willingly give their personal data such as physical attributes and educational backgrounds. These are both very important factors to please any critical parent. They also provide information about extra services they can provide such as ability to answer questions when asked about plans and marriage.
How does it work?
When a man meets a woman’s requirements, they both sign an agreement and then afterwards, the woman makes a down payment. As part of the deal, the two need to learn as much as they need to about each other so they can answer questions that the girl’s parents and relatives might ask.
A man under the alias “Guo Yi”, admitted that he was rented several times already. When asked where the couple sleeps, he said that he sticks to the “green rent” principle which means that they sleep in separate rooms.
Yi said sleeping arrangement is not a problem because the parents usually prepare two separate rooms.
Although there is no law that prohibits renting fake boyfriends, deputy secretary of the criminal law commission of the Beijing Lawyers Association Li Hongzhao said that such negotiations may lead to unexpected instances like sexual assault.
