On Simu Liu’s fourth appearance on the late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” he shared a funny story about how his parents accidentally consumed his edibles and ended up crashing his car.
A search for food: In the recent episode with Kimmel, Liu shares how he eventually bought a share of and became the chief content officer of Mila Soup Dumplings. The 34-year-old Canadian actor explains that he left his parents in his new home to housesit. Liu’s parents, who he describes as “frugal,” had a hard time ordering food through apps using their mobile phones. They eventually gave up and searched for food in the house instead.
“My mom starts foraging around the house for things to eat and she’s looking and she’s looking and she finds her way into my walk-in closet where she finds what she believes — again you know working-class immigrants that have no idea what drugs look like — she finds what she thinks are gummy bears and trail mix with dried mushrooms inside. She’s like, ‘Oh, these are snacks,’” Liu recounted, noting that they mistook his edibles for snacks.
As they consumed the edibles and got high, Liu says that his parents got hungrier over the course of the night.
“Freaking out”: “And my dad, at this point he’s like, ‘We need to go to the grocery store’, and my mom’s like, ‘Uh-huh’, and so I mean it’s nighttime, they get into my car, immediately crash it. They crash it in my driveway into the shrubs and things,” Liu shared, adding, “They’re so high at this point. They’re freaking out. They don’t know what else to do.”
Hungry and Liu’s parents sought help from a neighbor and stayed home the whole night without getting food. The next morning, the actor’s Mila Soup Dumplings PR package arrived. According to Liu, his starving parents finished the entire package.
“I get home many days later and the car is totaled. My shrubs are wrecked, my drugs are gone, I looked at my parents and I’m like, ‘OK, first of all, I am never leaving you unsupervised in my house ever again,’” Liu said.
While his parents did not understand what had happened to them, they told Liu, “One thing I do know for sure is that you gotta get involved with that company because those dumplings were so good.”
Fan reactions: Fans and viewers found Liu’s story highly entertaining and praised him for his storytelling skills and humor on the show.
“That story about his parents eating stash, getting high, totaling his car and eating all the Mila dumplings cracked me up. Simu is so bright, articulate and funny that I totally understand now why Jimmy asked him to fill in for him. Please give this man a Green Card!” one viewer wrote.
“It’s always a delight to see Simu. He also filled in for Kelly Clarkson and interviewed Kumail Nanjiani. He might as well have his own talk show at this point,” another person commented.

If this happened on campus, Stanford should issue a clear public update and specific safety actions.

Agree. People need facts and process, not silence. The school should confirm what is being investigated.

Also important to separate verified details from rumors so this does not spiral online.

The death threat part is extremely serious. Hoping law enforcement and campus security are already involved.

This is where official reporting and support channels need to be visible and easy to access.
