Simu Liu joins ‘Gremlins: The Wild Batch’
By Bryan Ke
Simu Liu’s character, Chang, will be a mentor to “Gremlins: The Wild Batch” protagonist Sam Wing (Izaac Wang) as he navigates the “Wild West” of San Francisco, according to series writer Tze Chun.
Executive producer Brendan Hay told Collider, “He’s a little bit of our show’s Han Solo. He’s also kind of the best/worst mentor.” Liu’s character is described as a handsome and “impossibly charming bootlegger” who is the “son of one of San Francisco Chinatown’s most powerful and influential families.” Hay told Collider that Chang’s “Chinese ancestry and being born in America” bring “a little bit of a different point of view,” while serving as a guide for Sam, Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh), and young Mogwai, Gizmo (A.J. LoCascio).
