Hong Kong action star Simon Yam is now recovering at a hospital after sustaining injuries from a terrifying stabbing attack in China over the weekend.
The 64-year-old actor was speaking on stage during a promotional event in Zhongshan, southern Guangdong province on Saturday when he was suddenly attacked by a knife-wielding man.
Captured footage of the incident showed the attacker running onto the stage and stabbing and slashing at him a couple of times.
Yam was reportedly hit in the abdomen before the attacker was tackled down by security.

Yam has since undergone surgery and remains in an intensive care unit in Hong Kong, reports Agence France-Presse. Yam’s supermodel-wife Qi Qi shared in a social media post on Monday that the actor is recovering and “doing well.” She wrote on Weibo, that his family is “cheering him on.”
The veteran actor’s management company also posted a statement on Weibo expressing extreme shock over the incident.
Meanwhile, the attacker, identified as a 53-year-old man, surnamed Chen, remains in detention and undergoing police investigation. While his motives remain unclear, reports have indicated that the attacker is mentally unstable and that he had been planning an attack “for some time.”
A mental health assessment conducted by the authorities has found that the attacker was suffering from schizophrenia.
The police are also reportedly looking at an angle indicating that Yam was mistaken for another person whom the attacker had been plotting against.
Yam has had a reputation for being a devoted husband, father, and actor.

Yam, who made his Hollywood debut in “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” has appeared in over 40 television shows and 200 films.
