  • In addition to the Associated Press and MLB, Ohtani was also named Player of the Year by Baseball Digest, Baseball American and Sporting News, Halo Hangout reported.
  • In October, the Japan-born MLB player received the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award, the most prestigious award in baseball, MLB reported. The Tiffany & Co.-designed award is given to players who have made an impact on the sport.
  • “Over the next few years, I know that there are going to be many, many awards and accolades that come your way,” Commissioner Rob Manfred told the Angels’ two-way star at the press conference where the award was given. “But I felt that 2021 was so special that it was important to recognize the historic achievement that took place in 2021 with an award just about 2021.”
An amazing season: Ohtani hit his 46th home run at the end of the current season, which placed him on the list of legends who have made more than 45 homers in a single season, including Babe Ruth, Jim Rice and Jimmie Foxx, Sportsnet reported.
  • Ohtani also made 26 doubles, eight triples, 26 stolen bases and 103 runs during the season as a hitter.
  • As a pitcher, he went 9-2 with an earned run average of 3.18 in 23 starts, according to Sports Illustrated.
