Fox/Marvel’s highly-anticipated follow-up to “Deadpool”, the highest grossing R-rated movie ever, has recently signed Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna as a key character to join its growing line-up of cast members.
While the character that Kutsuna will actually be playing has not been revealed, Deadline did confirm that she will have a “key role” in “Deadpool 2”.
Throughout her acting career, the 24-year-old actress has mostly appeared in Japanese productions, including the Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven”. She did, however, recently star in an indie film called “Oh Lucy!” co-starring Josh Hartnett.
She will be joining fellow Deadpool newcomers Josh Brolin who will play the mutant Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, and Jack Kesy, who’s also in an undisclosed role.
Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his titular anti-hero role alongside returning cast members Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Stefan Kapacic (Colossus) and Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead).
The first film was a surprise massive hit, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide with a $783 million pull at the box office.
The superhero flick, which will be helmed by director David Leitch, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
While the movie is still a year away, excitement for its release has been drummed up since March when its first teaser was released. Entitled “No Good Deed”, the short clip sees the fan-favorite “Merc With A Mouth” responding to a street robbery in his typical meta fashion.
