Hello, everyone!
A new study has found teachers bias Asian students with higher expectations of academic performance. Conducted by Keitaro Okura, a sociology Ph.D. candidate at Yale, Okura controlled for students’ socioeconomic status and academic achievement, but found various biases from teachers.
Some key discoveries from the study include teachers reporting more positive assessments of Asian students ability and attentiveness in the classroom compared to their white peers, as well as having higher expectations on Asian students’ academic future, expecting them to obtain a college degree and recommending them for honors or advanced placement courses.
