Calling for an end to the filibuster, she also referenced a women’s strike in Iceland which froze most of the country after 90% of participants stopped working as inspiration for U.S. protests. Mayor Harrell also spoke, emphasizing that Seattle police will not be used to help or reinforce “punitive and reactionary” abortion bans in other states.

In northwestern Pakistan, several gunmen attacked a UN-funded polio vaccination team, killing three people.
The assailants shot two police officers and a healthcare worker as the team went door-to-door in North Waziristan. This isn’t an isolated incident. In previous public health campaigns, gunmen have also shot and wounded other staff in various cities.
Vaccinations have been met with some opposition in Pakistan from conspiracy theorists and religious figures. However, health experts in the region are worried about worsening outbreaks since additional cases were reported in April.
