Hello, everyone!

Gymnastics coach Qi Han, has been placed under coaching restrictions by the United States Center for SafeSport as they investigate allegations of abuse by one of his athletes.

Han is the owner of Everest Gymnastics in North Carolina, one of the most elite gymnastics training facilities in the country. He is not allowed to train gymnasts without the supervision of an adult trained in athlete safety. The suspension comes after at least seven years of other formal complaints alleging physical, emotional and verbal abuse of his athletes.

He grew up in China and competed for the national team. His wife, Yiwen Chen, was also a member of the national team prior to their move to the United States. Han became known as an expert in coaching uneven bars.

The call came after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and the two countries issued a joint statement reaffirming their economic and political agendas last Thursday. After taking control of Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban banned women from universities and girls from school after sixth grade, in addition to the removal of elected female officials. The joint statement read: “The two sides … called on the Afghan rulers to form an inclusive government in which all ethnic groups and political groups actually participate, and cancel all discriminatory measures against women, ethnic minorities and other religions.”
