In another bizarre case of faulty camera technology, a boy in Shanghai, China was able to unlock his mother’s phone through its facial recognition software.
The father of the boy, last name Liu, had purchased the iPhone X for his wife, and she had set up the facial recognition software as per the instructions provided. Much to their surprise, the family quickly discovered that their son was able to unlock his mother’s phone by using his own face.
Liu contacted Apple’s customer support hotline, who informed him that the case was a very rare and isolated one due to the fact that his wife and son look like each other; however, the company has launched an investigation into the matter.
According to Shanghaiist, Apple has stated that the facial recognition software is practically foolproof, with odds being a million to one that anyone else would be able to unlock your phone by using their face. In a country of 1.3 billion people, those odds may be stacked against Apple.
