The unidentified man was arrested by the Saudi religious police after he was discovered to have allegedly made more than 600 posts on Twitter that deny the existence of God. Some of his posts also ridiculed Qur’an verses, accused prophets of lying and said their teachings fueled hostilities.
The 28-year-old man, who admitted to being an atheist, refused to repent and said that his tweets are his own beliefs and that he has the right to express them.
Saudi Arabia, an Islamic theocracy, has declared the Qur’an and the Sunnah (tradition) of Muhammad to be the country’s constitution.
