An Indian-American couple became the latest victim of the series of hate crimes recently directed against minority groups after their
According to KKTV, the FBI are now on the hunt for the suspects who posted hate messages and smeared dog excrement all over the house.
The couple was reportedly woken by their neighbors who discovered vandalism smeared on their garage.
“About 10 percent of the messages were racial slur on us, ‘You brown or Indian shouldn’t be here,’ something like that. So it was frightening,” the homeowner, identified only as Saravanan, was quoted as saying.
“No physical damage; that mental damage is there. It will be there … at least for a while,” said Saravanan.
“We saw more than 50 papers stuck everywhere on our door, window, car. They smeared dog poop everywhere and they had thrown at least, like, 40 eggs on our walls, on our ceilings, everywhere outside,” he said.
Asked whether they knew who would have done the attack, Saravanan responded: “I have no idea. I have no idea.”
With the damage left by the invasion, it is assumed that the attackers may have been a large group.
“Definitely more than one person,” he said. “They think at least a group of eight to 10 people must have been there.”
But while the horrific attack had hate written all over it, all of their neighbors offered hope, who came together and cleaned up their house for them.
“It was a mixed message in on one side we see this kind of thing happening, and on the other side, we have really good people and helping us all the time,” said Saravanan. “I want to thank God for giving us good neighbors and I hope this thing doesn’t continue in the future.”
As it was classified by the local sheriff’s office as a hate crime, the case was turned over to the FBI for further investigation.
