A character from a classic ‘90s Hong Kong movie has gone viral on Chinese social media for its resemblance to Santa Claus.
Pictures of Oboi — pronounced the same as the English words “All Buy” — played by veteran Hong Kong actor Elvis Tsui in the 1992 movie “Royal Tramp,” has been widely shared by Chinese netizens.

The character is also being called “Chinese Santa” for his long, white beard and red hat, according to Shine.
Photoshopped versions of the character have circulated on social media wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

This meme eventually made its way to Tsui, who also joined in on the fun. In his official Weibo account, the 57-year-old actor shared a picture of Oboi and went along with the fans, saying: “It’s Christmas and the old man with a red hat and white beard is bringing you the best wishes!”

The character also became an emoji in China as well as a hot seller on online shopping platform Taobo, Shanghaiist reported.
