Earlier this week, comedian Roseanne Barr drew backlash for her racist tweet about a former senior advisor to President Obama.
Soon after, ABC executives cancelled her reboot of “Roseanne,” calling her comment on Twitter “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

Barr has since apologized, but appears to now blame her behavior on Ambien, a sleep-aide in now-deleted tweets.
However, the Ashleigh Koss, a spokeswoman for Sanofi, the maker of Ambien, said in a , “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”

Barr has in the past been criticized multiple times for controversial, racist, and conspiracy theory tweets.
More recently, on the the revival’s third episode, Barr’s character and husband, played by John Goodman, made a joke regarding two of other shows on ABC that feature diverse casts. In the episode, Barr and her character’s husband wake up on their couch after having fallen asleep in front of the television. Goodman’s character says, “We missed all the shows about black and Asian families.” Barr’s character responds, “They’re just like us. There, now you’re all caught up.”
The joke, aimed at the shows “Black-ish” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” was perceived by many as demeaning to diverse shows.
