Vietnamese Nail Salon Under Fire After Trying to Charge Fat People More

Netizens are up in arms against a Vietnamese-owned nail salon after it placed a derogatory sign targeting obese people.

Rose Nails, a shop located in Memphis, Tenessee, had allegedly put up a sign demanding more pay from heavier customers for their services.

“Sorry, but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists. Thank you!” read the sign which eventually emerged on Facebook. A regular pedicure in the establishment costs $30 at most.

Deshania Ferguson, the woman who captured the image and posted it online said the sign was, “So rude!”

The image has since gone viral, earning criticisms from social media users who were shocked about the preposterous increase from the salon.

Son Nguyen, the owner, told local news outlet WREG that the sign never existed despite the photographic evidence posted on social media. The owner was adamant that the shop in the photo was not his.

“They took the sign down and denied ever having it up…. pictures are worth a thousand words,” Ferguson stated on Friday.

Nguyen said instead that he and his wife have, on occasion, denied service to overweight people because it is “difficult for technicians to give them pedicures.”

He added that obese customers had caused damage to two of the shop’s chairs, which amounted to $2,500.

“I feel like they ought to be able to get services like any other person,” a customer was quoted as saying.
