Real-Life ‘Mario Kart’ Is Coming to Los Angeles
By Ryan General
Die-hard fans of Mario Kart in multiple cities are in for a special treat as they will have an opportunity to participate in a real-life version of the game.
Called the “Mushroom Rally” by its creators, the live Mario Kart competition will let participants “race against your favorite characters while collecting stars to win amazing prizes.”
The event, which is similar to the MariCar races in Tokyo, Japan, may not be directly associated with Nintendo or Mario Kart but its organizers are promising the closest “Mario Kart experience” that they can provide.
The thrilling karting experience based on the beloved game franchise was launched in Australia earlier this year as “Mushroom Racing” and will be heading to L.A. and several locations such as England’s East Midlands, Newcastle, London, Liverpool and Manchester in early 2019.
Details for the L.A. event, including the exact location and ticket prices, are yet to be posted but interested parties can now sign up for updates on the Mushroom Rally site.
Based on the site, each ticket includes a costume (dress up as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, or Bowser), 30 minutes of racing, games, and other activities. While participants of all ages are welcome to join, there are activities that will be exclusive to adults.
According to LA Mag, a number of prizes will be given away, including tickets to compete against champions from other cities in Las Vegas for the top competitors.
