A Japanese artist has gone viral for creating a GIF that features several “Pokémon Scarlet” and “Pokémon Violet” gym leaders using pixel art.
On Feb. 28, Twitter user @Roncally_Hayate shared their unique bitmap versions of characters Larry, Grusha, Ryme, Tulip, Brassius, Katy, Kofu and Iono. Each gym leader notably has their own special animation.
The artist was inspired by the character designs of “Pokémon Black and White,” the last “Pokémon” game to be bitmapped, according to SoraNews24.
Several Twitter users have commented on @Roncally_Hayate’s tweet, which has garnered over 3.1 million views and 90,200 likes.
“Each character is full of personality, even something as simple as Larry’s is breathtaking! Wonderful work, earned a follow!” one user wrote.
“I miss the og pixel art so much it’s not even funny. This is wonderful, excellent work!” another user said.
“These look far better than the 3d models do Love them!” another user declared.
Following their release last year, the games quickly became the fastest-selling titles
history, with over 10 million units sold in 72 hours.
