Warning: This article contains spoilers from the film “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.
Paige Tico, played by actress Veronica Ngo, pulled off an incredibly moving act of sacrifice in the action-packed opening of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” that is so perfect it makes up for her very brief screen time.
While her early demise did leave audiences wanting more from the character, her awe-inspiring final scene did enough to turn it into one of the biggest highlights of the film.
For one, Paige’s selfless death lead to the destruction of Last Order’s megaship called the Dreadnaught, causing a chain of events that would affect major characters in the movie.
She also served her purpose well as the minor character who would become the heart and driving force of her sister Rose Tico, the spirited member of the Resistance support crew.
Thankfully, her heroic moment was brilliantly captured in true Star Wars fashion: Beautifully shot and nothing short of epic. Also, more importantly, the actress who played the badass gunner of the Resistance gave the character so much justice that we were all left grieving inside when we saw her go.
Let’s get to know her more, shall we?
Ngo, like her onscreen sister Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), is also Vietnamese. She is also known by her initials NTV, from her full Vietnamese name Ngô Thanh Vân.
Veronica Ngo is not only an actress, but also a well-known singer, model and former beauty queen back home.
When she was 10 years old in 1989, her entire family moved to Norway, but she relocated back to Vietnam 10 years later to pursue an entertainment career.
After joining a beauty contest and initially pursuing a modeling career, she would eventually transition as a singer and find tremendous success. Through the years, Ngo has released multiple albums in Vietnam which are all certified hits.
Ngo also has a thriving local career as an actress, both in the small screen and the big screen. Soon, she would bring her acting talent outside Vietnam, taking roles in movies and TV shows in other parts of Asia.
Last year, she made her Hollywood debut when she played the role of Mantis in the flick “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” which stars Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen.
If her memorable role in “Star Wars The Last Jedi” has left you wanting more of Ngo’s awesomeness, fret not, as she is playing the role of Tien in the upcoming Will Smith-starer “Bright”, which is set to be released worldwide on Netflix on December 22, 2017.
