North Korea’s foreign ministry has accused Israel of genocide in the Gaza Strip, adding that the U.S. is an accomplice.
What Pyongyang is saying: North Korea alleged that Israel bombed the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 17, adding that it had committed a war crime with the help of the U.S.
“What cannot be overlooked is that Israel’s such criminal act was openly committed under the undisguised patronage of the U.S.,” a North Korean foreign ministry spokesperson told state media outlet Korean Central News Agency, as per aggregator KCNA Watch. “Immediately after the bombing of the hospital by Israel, the U.S. covered such a crime with absurd sophism that the incident seemed to have been committed by other forces rather than Israel. This shows that the U.S. is an accomplice who connived at and abetted Israel’s massacre.”
The spokesperson also blamed the U.S. for giving Israel a “green light to massacre Palestinians without any worries.” The U.S., they said, supplied Israel with weapons and military support.
About the explosion: The Oct. 17 explosion killed a total of 471 people. Its source has been disputed, with President Joe Biden asserting intelligence networks’ belief that the bomb was a misfire from Gaza militants themselves.
“An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the al-Ahli [Baptist] hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officials stated following an investigation. “Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza.”
Support for Hamas: North Korea has reportedly expressed support for Hamas since the terrorist attack earlier this month that killed about 1,400 people in one day. Last week, a militant video and weapons seized by Israel indicated that Hamas likely fired North Korean weapons during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Despite North Korea’s denial, officials and experts on firearms pointed toward Hamas’ usage of  Pyongyang’s F-7 rocket-propelled grenade. The East Asian nation is also accused of providing ammunition to Russia to support its war on Ukraine. The White House said North Korea delivered more than 1,000 containers of military equipment to Russia last week.
