A talented Chinese point guard is now counted among the elite basketball stars of Michael Jordan’s Jordan Brand.
Jordan Brand, a subsidiary of the Nike company, welcomed Chinese basketball star Guo Ailun as an official Jordan athlete via a news post on Nike’s website.
According to the announcement, Guo’s addition to the group coincides with the 20-year anniversary of the company’s first foray into Greater China.
In a special video, Guo’s jersey was shown being added to a locker room along with NBA superstars Jimmy Butler, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook.
“We’re excited to welcome Guo to the Jordan Family,” Jordan was quoted as saying. “From his competitive spirit and style of play on the court to his strong personality off the court, he’s a great fit for the brand. We look forward to Guo representing the game, Jordan Brand, and ultimately himself in Greater China.”
The 24-year-old basketball star plays for the Liaoning Flying Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association. Guo also plays on the Chinese national team.
“Joining the Jordan Brand family is a dream come true,” says Guo, “I’ve visualized playing like MJ since I was a kid — from managing the game and leading my team to a championship. It is an honor to be the first Jordan Brand athlete in China and I am thrilled to bring my love of the game to the brand.”
Guo is set to be part of Wing, Nike’s international outreach program which serves as a basketball community development initiative.
