Celebrity wax museums are a special yet creepy way for the general public to see their favorite stars up close — assuming you can even tell who the sculptures are supposed to be.
In China, such attractions are gaining rapid popularity with wax museums sprouting in many locations around the country, reports NetEase (via Shanghaiist). And while there are undoubtedly great ones, some recent museums are showing a noticeable decline in quality.
Visitors of a recently opened museum in Shenyang, for instance, have noted how little its wax figures resemble the celebrities they are supposed to be based on. The museum has since gone viral online for its barely-identifiable wax statues of Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Jackie Chan and Jack Ma, among others.
The figures featured in the Shenyang museum are reminiscent of those found in the popular Louis Tussauds House of Wax in Norfolk, England, which gained a cult status for being the world’s worst wax museum. With the House of Wax already closed since 2013, maybe the Shenyang museum is ready to claim the title.
