Netizens Slam Hollywood for Constantly Doing This to Make Asian Women Look ‘Cool’

It’s a good day for some Asian representation when “Deadpool 2” introduced Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna), Marvel’s electricity-wielding assassin, to the big screen.
If you’re one of them, then you already know what it is: her vibrant streak of purple hair.
A renewed discussion on this archaic stereotype of “Asian hair streak” came to light when Twitter account nerdyasians called out western media last week.
“It’s time for western media to drop the idea that Asian girls need neon streaks of color in their hair to stand out.”
The tweet, accompanied by a still of Yukio and a collage of other Asian female characters sporting the same hairstyle, has garnered at least 75,000 likes, 28,000 retweets, and over a thousand replies.
Twitter users condemned, questioned, and mocked the reckless perpetuation of the stereotype.
Writer Anne Shi (heartmush) first shared the collage last year, explaining why the hair color streak is offensive.
However, some offered a different perspective on the issue.
Thankfully, nerdyasians and several others pointed out that Asian women do not need the purple hair treatment to win love.
Yet some took a jab at another issue.
