Netflix’s “Iron Fist,” AKA everyone’s least favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe property, will not be renewed for a third season.
According to Netflix, Finn Jones’ Danny Rand may at least continue to appear in other Netflix-Marvel universe programs such as “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and “The Punisher,” The Hollywood Reporter reports.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix said in a statement.
“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew, and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership that we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
While Netflix did not specify exactly why “Iron Fist” was being shut down, the show has been consistently rated by critics as the weakest among the “Defenders” shows.
Aside from the whole whitewashing controversy, the first season of the show was heavily criticized for its vapid acting and uninspired, lackluster action sequences. It also took Finn Jones two seasons (one in “Iron Fist” and another in “The Defenders”) before he finally got around to actually training in martial arts for the second season of “Iron Fist.”
It is worth noting that Disney is set to launch its own streaming service next year, with plans of creating original content in addition to new and old TV shows and movies.
Despite such plans, however, the other Netflix-Marvel series are expected to continue.
