Netflix has released the first trailer for their anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Scott Pilgrim.”
About “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off”: The series follows Scott Pilgrim, a bass player in a garage-rock band who falls for Ramona Flowers, a mysterious girl with seven evil exes who Scott is forced to defeat if he hopes to make Ramona his girlfriend.
About the adaptation: Based on Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series of the same name, the Netflix anime adaptation promises to be a blend of the original comics and the 2010 live-action film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” directed by Edgar Wright. The one-minute clip features visuals that blend O’Malley’s iconic videogame-inspired aesthetic with anime stylings, complete with a song performed by the in-universe band Sex-Bob-omb themselves.
Cast and crew: Directed by Abel Góngora, the show will be animated by the studio Science SARU. O’Malley will write and executive produce alongside Bendavid Grabinski, with Wright also set to executive produce.
Meanwhile, the entire main cast of Wright’s 2010 live-action adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” are returning to voice their respective characters, including Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills and Mae Whitman as Roxy Richter.
Anamanaguchi, the chiptune band that contributed the soundtrack to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game,” will work alongside Joseph Trapanese to score the upcoming series.
Release date: “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix on Nov. 17.
