Netflix released the highly anticipated official trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of “One Piece” on Saturday.
About the trailer: The three-minute video features several fight scenes, dangerous rivals and the Straw Hat Pirates in action.
It was notably released on One Piece Day, which annually commemorates the launch of Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece” manga series.
Key people: The upcoming series was developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda and directed by Marc Jobst. Owens, Maeda, Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements serve as executive producers, while Nicole Hirsch Whitaker serves as its cinematographer.
Cast members include Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skyler as Sanji, Jacob Gibson as Usopp and Peter Gadiot as Shanks, among many others.
The series’ Japanese dub will notably feature the original Japanese voice actors reprising their roles from the “One Piece” anime.
About “One Piece”: Oda’s popular manga series, which debuted in 1997, follows a teenager named Monkey D. Luffy who dreams of becoming a pirate captain. With his trusty crew called the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy embarks on a perilous journey to find a mysterious treasure known as “One Piece.”
Release date: Netflix’s upcoming live-action series is set to premiere on Aug. 31.
