Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama will direct the upcoming anime. Aramaki is known for his work on “Appleseed,” a 2004 post-apocalyptic sci-fi film based on a manga series of the same title. On the other hand, Kamiyama directed a film within the franchise, “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society,” which came out in 2006.

It’s unclear whether the new Netflix anime will come out as a movie or a series. No release date information was also announced other than that it will arrive sometime in 2020.
In its caption, Netflix teased that the “desire to explore the true meaning of human consciousness intensifies.”
