The song is Jaehyun’s first full songwriting credit. He has previously co-written tracks such as NCT 127’s “Fire Truck” and NCT U’s “Dancing in the Rain.”
In an interview with GQ, Jaehyun said he thought of loneliness before everything else while writing “Forever Only.”

“Usually I think of the theme, then melody and then lyrics, but this time I thought of the loneliness in the song first. I thought of the image first this time, and it becomes quite easy to write the lyrics once you have that image in your head,” he shared.
“Forever Only” is the fourth song from “NCT LAB,” a project that showcases “solo songs, self-composed songs, and unit songs” by NCT members. The songs are considered separate from official NCT records. “Forever Only” follows “Child” by Mark, “Age of Light” by Haechan, Mark and Doyoung and “Rain Day,” an English-language single by Taeil, Kun and YangYang.
In other NCT-related news, SM Entertainment confirmed a September album comeback for NCT 127, one of NCT’s four subunits. Meanwhile, one of NCT’s other subunits, NCT Dream, will be a headliner for KCON LA 2022 this weekend. They will join a star-studded lineup that includes ATEEZ, ENHYPEN, ITZY, Kep1erLOONA, P1Harmony, Stray Kids and THE BOYZ.
